Why the network layer matters
A mixer can produce a perfect anonymity set on chain while your connection metadata quietly links the deposit and withdrawal sessions to one IP address. Any service worth using publishes an onion address; any wallet worth using can route its traffic through Tor.
A short checklist
Reach the service through its official onion URL, verify it from more than one source, enable Tor in your wallet's network settings, disable any block explorer lookups that leak your addresses, and never open the same session over both clearnet and Tor.
Separate identities
Use a dedicated browser profile and a fresh receiving wallet for mixed coins. Keeping the network identity, the wallet and the spending purpose separate is what turns a mixing round into durable privacy.
