How we rank crypto mixers

Four factors decide the position of every service in this list.

01

Mixing technology

CoinJoin, amount randomisation or a Monero bridge — the stronger the anonymity set, the higher the score.

02

Fee model

Fixed, random or tiered fees. Random fees make chain analysis harder, fixed fees are easier to plan around.

03

Network privacy

Native Tor routing and no-logs operation keep metadata out of the picture.

04

Control & flexibility

Custom delays, output splitting and non-custodial key control.

Bitcoin mixers in 2026: what actually changed

A Bitcoin mixer is a privacy tool that removes the deterministic link between the coins you deposit and the coins you receive. In 2026 nearly every serious service is built on CoinJoin: many participants sign one collaborative transaction with equal-sized outputs, so a blockchain analyst cannot tell which input paid which output. The larger the anonymity set of a round, the stronger the result.

The second big shift is where the mixing happens. Non-custodial designs such as Wasabi Wallet and Whirlpool never take custody of your keys — the coordinator only helps participants find each other. Custodial tumblers still exist and can offer wider feature sets, but they add counterparty risk that a non-custodial CoinJoin does not have.

Fees now come in three shapes. Fixed fees (Whirlpool) are predictable and independent of the amount. Percentage fees (Wasabi at 0.3%, Whir from 1%, Tumbler.io from 0.40%) scale with volume. Randomised fees (InMix.io, 1–3%) intentionally add noise so the fee amount itself cannot be used as a fingerprint on chain.

Finally, time and cross-chain hops matter more than raw fee level. A configurable delay — up to 2 days on Whir, up to 7 days on Mixero — defeats timing correlation, and Mixero's Monero bridge routes value through a chain where amounts and parties are hidden at the protocol level before returning to Bitcoin.

Key terms

CoinJoin
A collaborative Bitcoin transaction in which many users combine inputs and receive equal-sized outputs, breaking the one-to-one link between sender and receiver.
Anonymity set
The number of participants your output is indistinguishable from. Higher is better.
Non-custodial
The service never controls your private keys, so it cannot lose or withhold your coins.
Coordinator fee
What the round organiser charges, separate from the Bitcoin network fee you pay miners.
Monero bridge
Converting BTC to XMR and back so the value passes through a protocol with hidden amounts and parties.
Timing correlation
An analysis technique that links deposits to withdrawals by their timestamps — defeated by mixing delays.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Bitcoin mixer?

A Bitcoin mixer, or tumbler, breaks the on-chain link between the sending and receiving address by pooling coins from many users and redistributing them, usually through CoinJoin transactions.

Which crypto mixer has the lowest fee in 2026?

Wasabi Wallet is the cheapest option in this ranking at a 0.3% coordinator fee plus Bitcoin network fees, followed by Tumbler.io which starts at 0.40%.

Is a non-custodial mixer safer?

Yes. Non-custodial services such as Wasabi Wallet and Whirlpool never take possession of your keys, so there is no counterparty that can withhold your coins.

What does a mixing delay do?

A delay separates deposit and withdrawal in time, so timing correlation attacks fail. Whir supports up to 2 days, Mixero up to 7 days.

Do crypto mixers work over Tor?

Wasabi Wallet routes all traffic through Tor by default, and InMix.io as well as Tumbler.io are reachable through the Tor browser.
